The new episode of Back to the Future: The Game was recently release for the PC, and I of course I played it and thusly have a review for it, and can safely say that this is indeed the best episode in the series so far. So without further ado, here’s my review of Back to the Future: Episode 3: Citizen Brown.

The episode begins directly where Get Tannen left off, with Marty crashing into a billboard for Citizen Brown. Marty manages to get out of the Delorean thanks to his girlfriend Jennifer, who we discover now doesn’t think too much of our time-travelling hero. Marty finds his way into Hill Valley, which to his horror has been completely taken over by Doc, having married Edna. It is now your job to figure out a way to see Citizen Brown so that Marty can convince Doc that everything in Hill Valley has gone haywire.  The story is well-written and keeps you in hooked on the game throughout, and the changes made to the characters are quite radical, especially Jennifer and Biff.  The episode ends on a cliffhanger that you can probably smell from a mile away, but it still leaves you begging for more.

The puzzles were about on par with the last episode; they all made sense with the story and were never too difficult to solve. One of my favourite puzzles involved using Marty’s guitar in a battle to win Jennifer’s respect, it was cool to see Marty rocking out like in the original movie. One issue I had was with an object that you had to pick up but shared the same hotspot as another item which I had clicked on earlier and was locked, so I didn’t bother with it, and it wasn’t until I resorted to a walkthrough that I finally managed to grab the item;  the two items having separate hotspots would have made it far easier to figure out.

The graphic design is still excellent and very polished, as to be expected with Telltale’s games, and you really get the feeling that something isn’t right with Hill Valley; and you’ve gotta love those go-carts, I mean, they just look awesome.

All in all, Citizen Brown is definitely the best episode in Telltale’s Back to the Future series so far. I can’t wait to see what happens in Double Visions, and I hope these episodes just keep getting better. I rate it an 8/10.
